Excursions and beaches in Asilah

Had del Gharbia

Nice hills area about 10km

of Asilah. Fundamentally

agricultural, the highlight is its

from the Gharbia, where peasants descend

visit the Ad Mercuri ruins. This

Roman city was a crossing point

of coastal and inland roads that

Yebel  Habib

This is a highly recommended area

for lovers of hiking.

Nice town on a 960m high mountain.
The summit of the mountain is characterized by having a forest of centuries-old cork oaks around the Sidi Hbib sanctuary, one of the most beautiful places you can find in the region.
You can also visit its souk on Tuesdays.

 

Sidi  Yamani

Former military zone during the Spanish protectorate is today a rural commune, highlighting its souk on Mondays.

Near Sidi Yamani, we can visit the Neolithic ruins of the Cromlech de Mezora (it is recommended to contact a local guide, since its access is not easy). The Cromlech de Mezora, is considered unique in the African continent. It is a tumulus of more than 50m in diameter surrounded by 160 mehirs, up to 7 meters high.

 

Moulay bousselham

For ecologists and naturalists. The beach is 80 km away towards Larache. Take the motorway and then the exit to Moulay Bousselham.

 

It is a small fishing village with a reserve of storks, herons and pink flamingos. On the beach you can rent boats that give you a tour of the entire reserve. Arrange the price beforehand with the boatman. Then you can buy the fish on the beach itself and there are beach bars that cook it for you. There are also restaurants in the village.

 

Khemiss-Bni-Arous + Moulay Abdessalam

It combines a visit to a souk and a holy mountain village (~ 1,200 m.). The market is located about 50 km. from Asilah: direction Larache, about 15 km. take the Tetuán junction and then 10 km. another junction to the right towards Khemis-beni-arous. The market is held on Thursdays and all the inhabitants of the surrounding mountains go.

 

Past the market, about 25 km. On roads surrounded by forests we reach Moulay Abdessalam (a holy village for Muslims). There are more than 20 fountains in the town and the saint's mosque, rising further up the mountain, has a cork floor. Near the mosque you will contemplate spectacular views from the top.

 

Beaches

Asilah's beaches are its best tourist attraction and a great complement after visiting the main monuments of the city. Beaches of fine white sand several kilometers long with strong waves typical of the Atlantic, ideal for surfers. Due to its orientation, its sunsets and sunsets are spectacular.

 

 

Las Palomas (or the Caves)

Without a doubt, one of the best beaches that Asilah has. The beach of Las Palomas, or de las Cuevas, is a wide and wild beach of 4km of fine sand with a cave that you can see at low tide. During the summer there are beach bars to eat fish and traditional food. Ideal for a camel ride or simply enjoying the sun and the Atlantic breeze.

 

How to get?

Direction Larache, 2km turn right and 1km take the dirt road, also to the right, which goes to the beach (3-4km). If you go by car you have to leave it in a guarded parking lot before going down to the beach. If you do not have a car, you can go by horse-drawn carriage (buggy) with a cost of more or less 100 / 200dh all day. For lovers of walking there is a path along the coast that takes you to the beach in 1 hour.
 

 

Sidi  Mugaits (or of the Saint)

Sidi Mugaits, or Santo Beach, is a wide, sandy and quiet beach. During the summer there are also beach bars to eat all kinds of food. It continues with Redda beach, which has large dunes and is located at the mouth of a small river.

 

How to get?

South direction. Taking the same direction as Las Palomas beach, after the right-hand junction, follow the road, you pass a town and 2-3km you find the first big junction (dirt road and uphill). You pull to the right and 5-6km. you arrive at the beach. There is a large parking lot.

 

 

Briech

Nice beach located at the mouth of a river. Well endowed with services and very visited in summer by the local population.

Beyond the beach are the ruins of Kouass-Akwas Briech, an archaeological site containing kilns for pottery-making dating back to Punic and Roman times.

 

How to get?

The beach is located north of Asilah, 6km towards Tangier.

 

 

Oued Tahadart beach (of the boats)

Narrow beach where you can rent boats for a ride.

 

How to get?

It is 5 km after Briech towards Tangier, next to the road, and before the Tahadart river bridge.
